Friday, 11th May 2018

9.30h to 11.30h –Council Meeting at City hall.

11.30h – Signature by ICOM Europe President Dr Luis Raposo and WFFM President Ekkerhard Nuemann of the “Museums, Social Landmarks – Declaration of Funchal on the European Year of Cultural Heritage”.at the Regional Government of Madeira Main Hall.

9.30h to 11.30h –Accompanying participants: Visit of Madeira Island, promontory Eira do Serrado for magnificent view of Curral das Freiras, a traditional village inside the mountains, then visit of “Monte” the upper part of Funchal and descend in toboggans.

Lunch (not included)

14.30h -Visit of the Botanic Gardens.

16.00h -Visit of the Church of the Jesuit College.

17.00h -Visit of the Santa Clara Convent (for all Council Members and Accompanying Participants).

18.30h -Visit Museu das Cruzes (head office of AMQC local Group of Friends of Madeira) will have a Madeira wine taste cocktail offered by The Regional Secretary of Tourism and Culture of Madeira (for all Council Members and Accompanying Participants).

WFFM 2018 - Botanic Gardens

Saturday, 12th May 2018

9.00h - Departure from Porto Mare Hotel to visit the Laurisilva forest, classified by Unesco as a World Natural Heritage site in December 1999. It is an outstanding relict and is the largest surviving area of a laurel forest believed to be 90% of primary forest. Stop at the high mountain of “Pico do Areeiro” (1818 m) one of the highest points of Madeira Island. Continue to Ribeiro Frio in order to cross the mountain roads surrounded by Laurisilva forest.

Continue the tour to Santo da Serra, a local village, where we will have lunch at a golf course restaurant with a superb view over the mountains and atlantic ocean with the Desert Islands. After lunch return to Funchal.

In the Funchal city center we will visit the Cathedral, its wooden ceiling and unique retable (restoration sponsored by the World Monuments Fund). The day visit will end at the Sacred Art Museum of Funchal.

Return to Hotels for a break.

19.00h - Departure from Porto Mare Hotel.

19.30h – Cocktail dinatoire at São Lourenço Palace offered by the Representative of the Portuguese Republic in Madeira, Dr. Ireneu Cabral Barreto (for all Council Members and Accompanying Members).

09.00h - Departure from Porto Mare Hotel to the General Assembly Meeting at the Contemporary Art Museum das Mudasin the west part of Madeira Island. Visit the museum.

11.00h to 12.30h – General Assembly with all the participants including Young Members.

12h30 – Farewell lunch offered by The Regional Secretary of Culture, Tourism and Transports of Madeira.
